Place your bids on gift certificates from local specialty stores! How about some beautiful jewelry or accessories? Place your bids on eye-catching jewelry & accessories handmade by local artisans! There’s something for everyone! Cash, Checks or Credit Cards will be accepted for this exciting experience!

SILENT AUCTION RULES

• To make a bid for a Silent Auction Basket, simply write your name, phone number and email address and the amount you wish to bid. Please make sure that your contact information is correct and neatly written.

• The opening bid on each item must be at least the minimum price listed. Bids must be in the designated bidding increment of whole dollars. Any bids not adhering to this format will be declared invalid and voided. If a name is crossed out, that bid will be considered null.

• There is no maximum limit for your bid! If the bid sheet is full, please continue onto the second sheet. If there are no extra sheets, please request one from the Silent Auction Volunteer.

• Once the auction is declared closed, the last bid entered on the bid sheet that adheres to the designated bidding increment will constitute the winning bid and will be so marked. The Event Committee will mediate any disputes among bidders and that determination shall be final.

• Winners will be announced during the Event program. If you are the winner and are not on the premises, we will consider your bid null and the second highest bidder will be declared the winner.

• If the initial declared winner declines their winning Silent Auction bid, the second highest bidder will be announced for prize awarding.

• Auction items purchases are final. No returns or exchanges will be issued. All provisions listed in certificates are subject to merchant’s availability.

• Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. Checks should be made out to NAFCON.

BEAUTY BY THE BOOK ACCESSORIES & SHOE SWAP

You can swap up to ten (10) new, unused or very gently used pairs of shoes and accessories (jewelry, scarves, handbags, belts, shawls, gloves, sunglasses, etc.)

Items received in a less than gently used condition will be returned to you. “If you wouldn’t lend it to your best friend, do not bring it.”

Drop off up to 10 items to swap at the NAFCON Women’s Ministry table on Sundays (Jan 1, 8, 15), Wednesdays (Jan 4, 11, 18) or between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event. We encourage you to drop off items before Jan 15th, but they will be accepted until 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

Each item dropped off earns you one “Swap Buck” to be used the day of the event.

For regular NAFCON attendees: Your items should be dropped off in a bag with your name clearly written on or on a paper inside. “Swap Bucks” can be picked up at the Women’s Ministry table after your items are sorted. They will be in an envelope with your name on it. “Swap Bucks” will be available for pick-up until Jan 18th for all items dropped off by Jan 15th. Otherwise, they must be picked up the day of the event.

For guests attending the event: their items should be dropped off in a bag with a self addressed envelope inside. If your items are dropped off before Jan 15th, your “Swap Bucks” will be mailed to you. Otherwise, they must be picked up the day of the event.

“Swap Bucks” will be numbered and distributed in the order of items received. The earlier you drop off your items, the earlier you get to shop the day of the event! All items will be neatly displayed in the worship center the day of the event.

Our guest this year is Renee Martin. Renee was born in Nashville and raised on country music. She has toured for over 20 years as a soloist and featured background vocalist for Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Patty Lovelace, Pam Tillis, Billy Dean and countless other artists in pop, country and gospel music.

Renee has seen many dreams come true in her lifetime, but God has shown her an even bigger plan. During a sold out show with Tim and Faith, at Madison Square Garden in 2000, God said, “This was as big as you could dream, but I can dream bigger.” As Renee looked out into the audience of 25,000 fans, all she could think was, “I wonder if these people are truly happy, if they know where their kids are, and do they know the Lord?” At that moment, Renee knew this would be her last tour in country music.

Her story only gets better from there. She has dedicated the rest of her life to passing on the beloved gift of grace. Please plan to share the day with us and allow Renee to “be Jesus to you.”

ICU loves on Rahab’s Hideaway!

The NAFCON women have had the privilege of helping Rahab’s Hideaway, over the past few months.

Together, we have provided several pieces of furniture & appliances & loaned out our “handy-man”, Shelly Parker, & his pick-up truck.

Marlene Carsen, who founded & runs Rahab’s, is just terrific to work with & has been very grateful of the help that has been provided.

At the beginning of April, she shared with us the burden on her heart to find someone to sponsor two of the young women who reside at Rahab’s.

They were graduating from YouthBuild Columbus on June 13. They would receive their high school diplomas in addition to their STNA (nursing assistant) Certificates from Columbus State. Neither young woman had family to provide for them & Marlene was praying that she could find sponsors for both girls.

We were so glad that we were able to sponsor Alex & then we were blessed by the opportunity to sponsor Rosie, as well.

Alex is planning to attend the University of Akron in the fall & Rosie, who was the valedictorian of their class, wants very much to be a hairdresser.

The NAFCON women gave from their hearts as they provided money & gifts for Alex & Rosie.

A Heart That Sings Spring Luncheon Photos

& Megan Luchene, who danced for us. What a spirit-filled young woman. God’s love shines through her as she dances. Thanks, Megan!

& our sound guy, Justin Keller. Hah! We caught him sleeping on the job! Thanks, Justin, for helping us out.

& now, as promised, the recipes!

Randee Parker’s Chicken Salad (makes about 3 cups of salad for sandwiches)

2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts

1 onion

herbs

green grapes (sliced)

1/4 cup diced white onion

chopped pecans (optional)

1/4 cup mayo

1/4 cup sour cream

tarragon

salt & pepper

bake chicken breasts on bed of sliced onions & herbs for 30-40 min. at 350 (don’t overcook!)

shred or chop chicken when cool (trim gristle & veins away).

mix with remaining ingredients. add more mayo & sour cream if needed, before serving.

You can add more or less of any of these ingredients, according to your preference. I like to use fresh oregano, marjoram & thyme to roast the breasts on, but you can use dried italian herbs, as well.

Adding fresh tarragon to the salad really makes a difference, too.

Make sure you don’t add too much mayo/sour cream to begin with or you’ll lose the taste of the chicken.

Suzanne Mayo’s Broccoli Salad

1 ½-2 Medium bunches of broccoli

1 cup pecan pieces

1 cup raisins

¼ cup of red onion, thinly sliced

1 pound of cooked crisp and crumbled bacon

1 cup of peeled & sliced apples

½ cup of chopped celery

Chop stalks of broccoli and tear florets apart into small pieces, add remaining ingredients, cover and refrigerate.

Dressing

1 cup of salad dressing (Miracle whip)

½ cup sugar

1/4cup of apple cider vinegar

Pour dressing over salad and let marinate for two hours before serving

Pasta Salad

2 pkg. tricolor bowties or corkscrew pasta

1 small can pitted whole or sliced black olives

1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved

8 oz. monterey jack cheese, cut into small cubes

1 yellow or orange pepper, cut into small triangles

1 pkg. pepperoni (cubed, diced or sliced)

1 jar Salad Supreme

1 pkg. Good Seasons (mix as directed)

salad oil & vinegar for Good Seasons

salt & pepper

1 cup grated parmesan cheese

Cook pasta just til al dente.

Drain, rinse with cold water & place in large bowl.

Add remaining ingredients, stirring gently after each addition.

Chill. Remove from refrigerator 15 min. before serving.

Add additional parmesan cheese, if desired.

What a great day & what a special luncheon!

Spring Luncheon Planning

IKEA “SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP” TRIP PHOTOS

Early in the morning on a Saturday in April, 11 women armed with credit cards, cash & the all important “SURVIVAL KIT” set out for IKEA in Cincinnati.

Christina counting off all the things she wanted to buy when she got there. Judy & Cheryl were thinking “let’s get this show on the road!”

We didn’t take any photos inside the store until the end. Here’s Christina waiting for her driver to finish up.

This is looking back toward the checkout lines. They were crazy long but went pretty fast.

We all had lunch at IKEA in their fabulous cafeteria. Swedish meatballs, they were “smaskens” (yummy).

Some people had both breakfast & lunch there.

And some people had to get ice cream for the “long way home”.

Ruthie bought Fred a shoe horn. Did you notice it’s a geratric shoe horn, hah!

& we all returned safely back to New Albany, with lots of purchases & all still friends!

A big thanks to Brenda Smith for organizing everything.

Special Project for Rahab’s Hideaway

Our verse for this month is "Be devoted to one another in (sisterly) love. Honor one another above yourselves." Romans 12:10

We have been given an opportunity to live out this verse in a very special and meaningful way & it involves Rahab's Hideaway & a teenage girl who is graduating from high school.

As you may remember, Rahab's Hideaway is a shelter & refuge for victims of human trafficking. Marlene Carson, the founder & main impetus behind this shelter, posted this on their website (www.rahabshideaway.org):

"Rahab’s Hideaway is many things to a select few. For the thousands of teen girls and young adult women who are leashed to their pimp and a self-destructive lifestyle by a chain of fear, we are a way of escape. For those who spend their nights turning tricks rather than their days turning the pages of a book, we are a means to an education. For others who have been sold so much that they feel they have nothing left, we instill value. These are the select few, but there are so many.

For those who are looking for a way out, Rahab’s Hideaway is a beacon of light. In October of 2008, Rahab’s Hideaway began to walk out purpose as its first resident was taken in, and a realization was had that for this one girl, it was worth all the sacrifice to get to this moment in time. As time writes yet another story, we watch as its characters grow, mature, progress, and survive. This is a story of liberation from physical, emotional, and even spiritual control, and it happens every day…at Rahab’s Hideaway."

At present, there are three teenagers & a pre-teen living at Rahab's. Against all odds, two of the teenagers are graduating from high school on June 11th. Praise God! Marlene is very proud of the girls & their accomplishments & gives all the glory to God for the great things that are happening at Rahab’s.

We have been asked to sponsor one of the girls. There is a great need for clothing & other personal necessities as she prepares to graduate. We will be accepting cash contributions over the next few weeks. Any amount that you could give toward this would be such a blessing & we would convert it to gift cards. Checks can be made payable to NAFCON & in the memo section, please put: Women's Ministries Project for Rahab's Hideaway. If you want to purchase a gift card on your own, please contact me & I'll let you know the store names that have been suggested. Please be assured that all contributions and gift cards will be put to very good use.

Craft Night in the NAFCON Gym

After postponing Craft Night at the beginning of the month, we rescheduled for February 19th.

Suzanne Mayo & Carolyn Koblens were in charge of this event & did a terrific job!

We had over 15 ladies come out in a cold night to scrapbook, knit, crochet, make jewelry or just sit around & chat (that would be me!)

We had a wonderful assortment of door prizes to choose from. In order to get one, you had to say the memory verse for the evening. It was: so now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. John 13:34

Christina was the first to say it & the first to choose.

Several gals brought yummy snacks to share.

This is Suzanne Mayo’s Recipe for

Buffalo Chicken Dip

2 cans of chicken (like the tuna size cans)
2 regular size cream cheese
1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (I use medium but you can use mild or hot - your taste)
1/2 cup ranch dressing
2 cups of cheddar cheese ( 1 cup mixed in)
Mix all together and spread in a baking dish. Sprinkle the other cup of cheddar cheese on top.
Bake at 350 till heated through and the cheese is melted on top.
Serve this with tortilla chips( "scoops") or an assortment of crackers.

This was a lot of fun & we hope to do it again. It was another opportunity to get to know each other & to love one another.

The drawing took place just in time for Valentine’s Day & the ICU Table in the Lobby was filled to overflowing with gifts. What a great way to begin!

& what a great way to show your love for One Another.

Just to recap what the Secret Sister Ministry is all about:

Welcome to our Secret Sister Ministry at NAFCON!

You have been given a “sister” to pray for & encourage. It is wonderful to have someone that prays for you, & to send you an encouraging note from time to time. We’ll be keeping our “sisters” a secret; so don’t let anyone know. At the end of the program year (Jan. 2011), we will reveal our “sisters” & draw our new “sister” for 2011.

What are your Responsibilities as a Secret Sister?

Know that it is a commitment. The lady you are assigned will be expecting you to uphold her in your prayers & she should be able to rely on you & be comforted by you for encouragement.
Pray daily for your sister. Get to know her needs & her family’s needs so that you may pray specifically for them.
Make an effort to get to know your sister. Discover her likes & dislikes. Know her favorite things. Find out all about her.
Be an encouragement of light for your sister. Send her cards or notes of encouragement.
Remember your sister on her special occasions. Buy a small gift (no more than $15) for birthdays, anniversaries & Christmas.
Keep it a Secret! Don’t let anyone know who you have. Leave your cards, notes or gifts on the ICU Women’s Ministry table in the lobby when no one is around or have someone else deliver them.
If you are unable to continue, contact Delora Gilzow. If you are unable to continue participating in the Secret Sister Ministry or are absent for a long time; you should contact Delora at deloragilzow@hotmail.com or 614 390-9319 so that your sister is taken care of in your absence or is given a new sister.
Above all, have fun & enjoy getting to know your sisters! You can be the instrument that God has placed in this person’s life to give them the encouragement they need right when they need it.

This is the recipe for

Shelly Parker’s Grits Casserole

4 cups water

1 cup quick grits

1 tsp. salt

4 eggs, lightly beaten & combined with

1/2 cup milk

1 lb. Jimmy Dean sausage, browned & drained

1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, in small cubes

1 stick of butter, softened

Prepare grits (4 cups boiling water with 1 cup quick grits). Mix in butter, cheese & sausage. Remove from heat. Add small amt. of this mixture into the lightly beaten eggs & milk. Then add the rest of the mixture to the eggs & milk.

Pour into 13x9 baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.

The “One Anothers” for 2010

As we mentioned on this post, we are focusing on 12 verses from God’s Word for 2010.

Each month, we will introduce a new verse. Ask the Lord to reveal His purpose for you in this verse . Ask Him to show you a new way of living these words.

Here are the 12 verses for the year:

January

and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10:24

February

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. John 13:34-35

March

Be kind & compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

April

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns & spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19

May

Be devoted to one another in (sisterly) love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10

June

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:21

July

Serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13b

August

Be completely humble & gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2

September

Therefore, let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block in your (sister’s) way. Romans 14:13

October

This is what the Lord Almighty says: Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the wide or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts, do not think evil of each other. Zechariah 7:9-10

November

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Romans 15:7

December

Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another. Be sympathetic, love as (sisters), be compassionate and humble. 1 Peter 3:8

One Body, One Mind, One Purpose

ROMANS 12:4 & 5 says: Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

ACTS 4:32 All the believers were one in heart and mind.

PHILIPPIANS 2:2 being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

TOGETHER, YOU AND I, ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST. TOGETHER WE ARE TO BE OF ONE MIND, OF ONE PURPOSE: BY EVERYTHING WE DO TOGETHER IN 2010 WE'LL BUILD A STRONGER SENSE OF COMMUNITY, GROW IN OUR KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS & IN OUR LOVE FOR HIM & FOR ONE ANOTHER .

This is our hope & prayer for the NAFCON women for 2010.

One Body, One Mind, One Purpose
1-2 So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-
work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing
you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your
attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to
it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you,
develops well-formed maturity in you.
3I'm speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that God has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living
then, as every one of you does, in pure grace, it's important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to
God. No, God brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we
are and what we do for him.
4-6In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around.
The body we're talking about is Christ's body of
chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn't
amount to much, would we? So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in
Christ's body, let's just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or
trying to be something we aren't.

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

In fact, so much fun - that we haven’t had time to post here on the blog. Let’s see if we can play catch up, shall we?

Where were we? Oh yeah, I remember. We were in January! Wow!

A little recap of January -

Mugs, Muffins & More was a fabulously fun time.

28 lovely ladies showed up with mug in hand (well, some showed up empty handed. Like me!). The coffee was great & the muffins were plentiful. And, I do believe the CD Calendars were a big hit.

Everyone was excited about the events that are planned for 2010 & our theme for the year:

God’s will for our lives in the New Year

"Thou couldst have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above." (John 19:11)

Nothing that is not God's will can come into the life of one who trusts and obeys God. This fact is enough to make our life one of ceaseless thanksgiving and joy. For "God's will is the one hopeful, glad and glorious thing in the world"; and it is working in the omnipotence for us all the time, with nothing to prevent it if we are surrendered and believing.

One who was passing through deep waters of affliction wrote to a friend: "Is it not a glorious thing to know that, no difference how unjust a thing may be, or how absolutely it may seem to be from Satan, by the time it reaches us it is God's will for us, and will work for good to us? For all things work together for good to us who love God. And even of the betrayal, Christ said, "The cup which my Father gave me, shall I not drink it?" We live charmed lives if we are living in the center of God's will. All the attacks that Satan, through others' sin, can hurl against us are not only powerless to harm us, but are turned into blessings on the way.

Who my life hath planned.

Dear Randy and the Women’s Ministry:

Greetings in the Blessed Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I want to take this time to thank you and to acknowledge your gifts of winter coats to The Fountain of Hope Youth Development program.

These coats will keep warm many children at The Fountain of Hope Community Church and the after-school youth development program.

The Fountain of Hope would not be in existence without people like you, people who are willing to support us through prayers, finances and donations.

update on Coat Drive

As you can see from this photo taken on 12/7, the response for coats has been great.

We delivered all of these today to the Fountain of Hope. With the high winds & temperature dropping that we are experiencing today, I'm sure the need is great & the coats will be put to good use.

We'll be accepting additional coats (youth sizes medium & large, if possible), through next Wednesday, 12/16. We'll make another delivery to them next week.

Wednesday Night Bible Study - Crazy Love

Tonite, we are beginning to study Francis Chan's book , "Crazy Love".

Francis is pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California. He is also the founder of Eternity Bible College and sits on the board of directors of Children's Hunger Fund and World Impact. He is committed to teaching directly from the Bible. His passion is to see the church display a much deeper love for Jesus (amen!).

God is Love. Have you ever wondered if we're missing it? It;s crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe - the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor - loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? Gratitude Journal

gratitude: the state of being grateful; thankfulness...

Thanksgiving is almost upon us, and our thoughts are hopefully turning to thoughts of thankfulness & remembering what we are grateful for.

And, today...
....for the beauty of the deer, playing in the woods, just feet from my window, I am thankful.
....that Henry didn't flush after throwing paper cups & straws into the toilet, for that I am thankful.
....for a washing machine that stands ready for a mountain of dirty clothes, I am very grateful.
These are the things I am grateful for at this very moment.

What are you grateful for today? We'd like to hear from you. Is it something funny one of your children said, or perhaps, the very fact that your car is running & not broken down?

This is the ICU Gratitude Journal. A place where you can come daily to jot down what you're thankful for.

Remember - God is in the details, large or small or funny or serious. But if you're anything like me, it's hard to remember all the little things that happen in your life. Jotting down your thoughts will help you remember them longer & sharing them here may be a great source of encouragement for someone else.

Do you suffer from depression? Or do you get a little "blue" around the holidays? A lot of people do. Making an active choice to write down & remember all the good or positive things that happen in your life, however small they may be, can help. We're much happier when we are in a state of gratitude. The benefits of are many & it spills over into everything you do. Try it and see.

This is the season for counting our blessings but let's continue to do so as we move toward Christmas & the New Year & beyond.

Yeah, it's Friday! The second most favorite day of the week ( Sunday is the most favorite, right?). Everywhere you go, people are saying: "TGIF".

Well, let's change it up a bit. From now on, every Friday, here on the ICU Blog, it's TGOF. Thank God on Friday. You made it through a tough week, either at home, work, or school. And we're giving you the opportunity to sing your praises to God for what He has done for you this week.

Women's Bible Study

Starting this Wednesday (tonight) we will be exploring a new book in the Bible:

HABAKKUK: When God Seems Unfair

These lessons will be a review & more intimate study from Pastor Larry's sermon from the previous Sunday. So, tonight we will be discussing the sermon from October 11.

If you are not able to sit in & hear the message on Sunday & take notes just go to the side bar on the left marked Bible Study. Then click on Habakkuk. It will take you to the NAFCON website where you can click on the current sermon and print out the notes. How cool is that!

Bloggy love & a little help

Have heard lots of great comments about the blog!

Beth Bridges was the one responsible for the setup & the flow of it all. All the boxes on the sides are called gadgets & Beth is still adding more for us. Hasn't she done an awesome job?!? Beth, you rock! God bless you for your servant heart!

We know this is all new to so many of you. A few of us have personal blogs, but we're only slightly ahead of the learning curve than you. You'll all catch up very quickly.

One question that we're hearing is: HOW CAN I LEAVE A COMMENT? Here's what you do:

1. Click on the word "comments" that follows each post (a post is a separate entry). When you click on the word comment, it will bring up the comments for that post.
2. Now you should see a big white square with the words "post a comment" right above it.
3. Write in your comment.
4. Right below the big white square, do you see the words "comment as"? Just to the right of that is a white area with a drop down option. It should say: "select profile". click on downward arrow & you'll see several options.
5. Now, click on "name/URL" option in the drop down area.
6. You should see another white box that says: "edit name". Enter your name as you want it to appear on the comment.
7. Do not worry about the URL line. Leave the URL line blank.
8. Finally, click on "continue" & it'll take you back to show your comment.
9. Click "post comment" & that should do it.

Welcome, NAFCON Women, to your very own Women's Ministries BLOG!

This blog was designed with you in mind. We hope to inform, involve & encourage you in your walk of faith. We also hope to give you "food for thought" with devotionals & a time to pray for each other with weekly prayer request days. We will also highlight upcoming ICU events & opportunities to serve.

Our prayer is that you will find a loving, warm & encouraging place here....a place to come when you are weary....a place to come for Biblical answers and encouragement, a place to shout your praises...even, a place to come for a good laugh.

You've probably picked up on the fact that encouragement is BIG on here. That's because of the key scripture verse we use for the ICU. "encourage one another and build each other up" 1 Thessalonians 5:11. That is our mission & our goal to encourage you & build you up. We pray that it will be your mission & goal, as well, for the days ahead, as you encourage others & build them up.

Maybe you're wondering "exactly what is the ICU?". ICU stands for Intensive Care Unit. Just as an Intensive Care Unit in a hospital provides life support for their patients, your Women's Ministries Team wants to provide life support for you. Obviously, we're not going to hook you up to an IV or intubate you, but, we will do our very best to support you in whatever way you need it & just as importantly, we want to equip you to do the same for others.
